The Danish citizenship test
Most people who apply for Danish citizenship must pass indfødsretsprøven, a written test about Denmark. It has 45 questions, and you need 36 correct answers to pass.
Next test: 25 November 2026, in 50 days. Register by 21 October 2026.
What the test asks about
35 of the 45 questions are about the official study material, læremateriale: Danish history, democracy, society and culture. 5 are about Danish values, and 5 about events from the last half-year.
Each question has two or three answer options. You may not use a dictionary, notes or a phone.
The test is in Danish
The questions and the official study material are written in Danish, so you need to read Danish to pass. If you have a disability, you can apply to your test centre for extra time or other aids, at least four weeks before the test.
Dates and registration
You register with a test centre, usually a language school, at least five weeks before the test. The fee is DKK 946, paid when you register.
